Big John McCarthy wacht al tien jaar op Fedor vs. Mir
Dit weekend staan twee legendes tegenover elkaar in Bellator’s heavyweight grand prix. Fedor Emelianenko gaat het opnemen tegen Frank Mir en de winnaar gaat door naar de halve finale.
Menig oude MMA fans hebben allang gedroomd over een match-up tussen deze twee grootheden. Toen Fedor de PRIDE titel wist te bemachtigen met een overwinning over Antonio Nogueira in 2003 duurde het niet lang voordat Frank Mir in 2004 de UFC titel wist te behalen door het verslaan van Tim Silvia. De concurrentie was hoog en beide organisaties zeiden de beste atleten in huis te hebben en toen werd er al gespeculeerd hoe een partij zou aflopen tussen deze twee heavyweights. “Big John” McCarthy was bij MMAJunkie Radio waar hij het volgende te melden had over de partij.
“It’s a fight that I’ve wanted to see for, you’re looking at over 10 years here,” McCarthy told MMAjunkie Radio. “When Fedor won the PRIDE heavyweight title from (Antonio) Nogueira back in 2003 and then Frank Mir won the UFC title, breaking Tim Sylvia’s arm in 2004, and back then no matter what anyone wants to say, if you remember it and you were really there, PRIDE was saying that it was the best and had the best fighters.
