Chael Sonnen out-of-competion testing: ‘That’s just fair, man’
Chael Sonnen wist wat er zou gebeuren als hij zou vechten tegen Tito Ortiz bij Bellator 170 dat op 21 januari zal plaatsvinden in the Forum in Inglewood, Californië.
Sonnen heeft namelijk al twee drugstesten gefaald, waarvan één in California. Ook moest hij ‘out-of-competition’ drugstesten doen om een licentie te krijgen zodat hij weer kan vechten in California.
Toen er gevraagd werd naar zijn testen zei hij het volgende:
“You have to understand, when you’re a guy who has my background who is coming off a suspension, that’s the way it goes. You’re going to have more testing and regulation than the other guys. That’s just fair, man.”
Sonnen’s eerste test was toen hij aankondigde dat hij zou vechten voor Bellator.
“I was surprised by it. I was at an event commentating and I got pulled into the back, but that’s why the tests work, the out-of-competition test. I was not ready to be tested or knew I was going to be tested and I haven’t thought about it a whole lot.”
Sonnen zijn laatst gefaalde test was hem fataal. Los van het feit dat zijn partij tegen MMA legende Wanderlei Silva op UFC 175 niet door ging, verloor hij ook zijn baan bij FOX als analist. Zijn Fox baan is hij dan wel verloren maar sinds Bellator heeft aangekondigd dat Wanderlei Silva is getekend heeft Sonnen zijn kans allang gezien en heeft aangegeven dat Silva zeker op zijn lijstje staat.
“There are things that are in bounds and out of bounds and that’s it. I lived on the other side of the tracks and came in clean on fight night. Now that doesn’t happen like that any more, it’s around the clock and it’s out of competition. The rules have changed, and you have to change with them. I was a little slow to get around on that but I’m there now.”
