Daniel Cormier krijgt zijn titel terug
Na het nieuws dat Jon Jones zijn B-monster ook positief testte voor Turinabol werd zijn tweede partij tegen Daniel Cormier omgezet in een no-contest.
Jones won ook zijn tweede partij tegen Daniel Cormier alleen is die partij door de CSAC (California State Athletic Commision) omgezet naar een no-contest. Als er een no-contest gegeven wordt telt de partij ook niet mee dus is “DC” nog steeds kampioen. Tijdens UFC Tonight sprak Daniel Cormie over de situatie en gaf hij aan dat hij zijn titel weer zal terugkrijgen.
“If it’s a no contest, then the fight didn’t happen,” aldus Cormier.
Daniel Cormier gaf aan dat hij gesproken had met UFC president Dana White en die kwam tot de volgende conclusie.
“If one of you guys would have missed weight, he would have won the fight, but you still would have kept the belt. Because of that, the championship is getting returned to you.’ The fight is a no contest. If he cheated, he could not have fought and cheated and still won the fight,” aldus White.
Het is natuurlijk een bittere pil om te slikken voor Cormier, maar “DC” geeft ook aan dat het financieel een groot verschil zou maken de volgende keer dat hij in de octagon stapt als kampioen of als uitdager. De regels zijn er niet voor niets en “DC” krijgt gewoon zijn titel terug en de daarbij horende financiële voordelen.
“People will say stuff like, well you got handed the belt. He cheated and the reality is for me to say, ‘I don’t want this title,’ when I was gonna be in a championship fight anyway, financially it’s just a big difference if I don’t fight as the champion as opposed to fighting for the title.”
